Andréanne Morissette

Tell us about you! How did you get into sport? Where are you from? What is your story?

My name is Andréanne Morissette, I am from Montréal and have been living and playing in BC for almost 5 years now. I am a full time designer and a passionate athlete. I have been developing as a trail runner in the past few years. What I love so much about it is that it gives me the opportunity to not only connect with my body but also with nature.

What is a fun fact about you or something not many people know about you?

I have a dream of having my own vegan ice cream brand! Stay tuned ;) Also, when I am not running, I love biking, mountain biking, surfing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, and I absolutely LOVE laying on the beach on super hot and sunny days.

What has been your biggest struggle throughout your career? How have you dealt with or overcome that?

During my training for my first 100km trail run, I experienced a retina tear and detachment that led me to two emergency eye surgeries. The recovery took a full month and I had to lay down on one side all the time. I quickly turned this moment into a great opportunity to learn how to deal with discomfort and build my mental strength. There is always beauty in struggles.

Injury is a part of life, and sport - how did you deal with yours?

My biggest injury happened 10 years ago after I came back from biking across Canada, I got hit by a car while walking across the street. I had several fractures in my legs that healed perfectly. What helped me to recover so fast and well is the fact that I addressed recovery with the same discipline and dedication that I put into my training.

What’s your favourite pre/post sweat snack? Your must have treat?

Well, let’s be honest, I am from Quebec so anything with maple syrup for pre sweat! For after, ice-cream and a cold cider are always on the list!

Do you have any pre-competition rituals?

I sleep with my medals under my pillow!

What gets you most excited about being a part of the Stoko Ambassador program?

Life is a team sport and I am beyond excited to be part of a movement with like minded athletes and feel this community support around what we are collectively thriving for: pushing our limits.

Career Highlights!?

I have to say my first 100km. Three weeks prior to the event, the race got canceled. I was so upset and decided to still make it happen. I was committed to accomplish this challenge and to honour all the hard work I had put into training. I reached out to the running community in that area and had people running with me along the way and some setting up aid stations. I got to be present to the power of community and as a result, was able to complete my race.

This year, I will be running the Freaky Creeky 100km September 17th, the Shuswap Ultra 20km September 25th and the London Marathon on October 2nd. Recovery and support will play a key role in the fulfillment of these races and I am very excited to have the K1 Tempo as a partner!
